Dr. HÅKAN BRORSON

Professor Håkan Brorson, MD, PhD is a world-leading expert and pioneer in lymphedema treatment and surgery. He is a Consultant at Aleris Art Clinic, and a former Senior Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Skåne University Hospital in Malmö, Sweden, as well as Professor at Lund University.

For more than 30 years, Professor Brorson has dedicated his research and clinical work to lymphedema. He developed the modern liposuction technique for lymphedema treatment and has personally trained medical teams around the world in this method. His research spans advanced imaging techniques (CT, MRI, and DXA), genetic and metabolic studies, and long-term outcomes after surgical treatment.

Professor Brorson earned both his Medical Degree and PhD from Lund University and is a specialist in orthopedic and plastic surgery. In addition to his work in Sweden, he has passed the American National Board Exam (VQE) and holds international academic appointments as Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, EGAMA in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Honorary Professor at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. He has held numerous leadership roles in national and international professional organizations, including President of the Swedish Association of Plastic Surgeons and President of the International Society of Lymphology, and has been a key member of several European and international lymphology societies.

Highly respected in the global medical community, Professor Brorson is an editor or editorial board member of multiple scientific journals and books, and a reviewer for more than 40 international journals. He has delivered over 250 invited keynote lectures, masterclasses, and presentations worldwide.

His contributions to medicine have been recognized with 21 national and international awards. He is the author or co-author of more than 190 scientific publications, editor of two medical books, and contributor to 48 book chapters. In addition, he serves as a trusted advisor to several national health authorities and cancer societies in Scandinavia.
